Message from our President, Mark Lee

Welcome to DeLaveaga Golf Club.

DeLaveaga Golf Club is one of the largest golf clubs in the state, more than 500 men and women. Our numbers are a testament to the beauty and quality of DeLaveaga Golf Course. The golf course is now in its third year since the renovation project that turned the course from a par 72 to a longer par 70. With each passing season the renovated areas continue to mature, additional improvements are made, and the course gets better and better. Course Superintendent Miles Hick and his staff now have the golf course in excellent condition, and 2008 promises to be a great year for those of us who play most of our golf at DeLa.

I would like to invite each of you to participate in the monthly tournaments sponsored by the Club. There is a format for everyone — scrambles, better ball, modified Stapleford, Ryder Cup, Cha-Cha-Cha-Cha, as well as individual handicap. The tournament schedule is listed on this website and tournament reminders are posted at the Pro Shop and on the bulletin board at the bottom of the staircase to the restaurant. If you have provided the Club with an e-mail address, you will be provided with tournament reminders by e-mail. Find a format that you like and come out and play.

For those members who have not participated in a tournament, I encourage you to give one a try. Playing in a tournament is a great way to meet new friends who share a common interest in this great game. There is no reason to feel intimidated; the tournaments are not that serious. They are intended to be fun, and those of us who participate regularly can attest that they are just that — fun. You will find that once you've participated you will be back for more. If you need assistance finding a partner or team, let the staff in the Pro Shop know. There are usually others also looking for a partner or team, and the Pro Shop staff will be happy to assist you in getting paired up.

Among the Club's most popular events are the Twilight Barbecues. Twilight 9 hole events are held each Tuesday beginning on April 1 and continuing through August 26. Twice a month the Club provides a free barbecue for all participants at the Club's Barbecue Area located adjacent to the driving range. The food is tremendous. These are events you will not want to miss.

The Club Championship begins on June 1 and continues on consecutive Sundays through June 22. The tournament is an individual match play by flight single elimination tournament. This culminates in a series of championship matches by flight on June 22. All of the players who are eliminated through the course of the tournament are invited to play in a separate consolation tournament on June 22 ahead of the Championship matches. Tim Terhorst captured the Club Championship in 2007 with a dramatic victory on the 36th hole over Steve Pacheco in the Championship Flight.

Our member/guest tournament, The Invitational, is two days of golf in a better ball format on October 4th and 5th.The course is always in its best condition for this event. PGA Club Professional Tim Loustalot and his staff as well as Board members and a host of volunteers go all out to make this the event of the year. Put these dates on your calendar and introduce a guest to two days of golf, fun and food at DeLa.

Members of the Board of Directors are listed in this website. All of us are dedicated to providing you with the best golf club experience we possibly can. We are open to any suggestions you may have to improve the Club and its events, so let us know. This is your Club — we want you to enjoy it.
